Low-German Bugenhagen Bible 1545- Plattduutse Bibel

The Low-German Bugenhagen Bible (1545).

Info on the language: Low-German

West Germanic language

Low-German forms together with Dutch, German, Jiddish, African, Frisian, English and Scottish Lowlands (the last three are forming a sub-branch within the group; North Sea germanic) the West Germanic language group. Linguistically Low-German stands between Dutch and German. During the middle-ages into the 16th century Low-German was one of the most important (economical) languages of Europe. That is why Luther’s German Bible was translated by his friend Bugenhagen into Low-German. Today approx. 10 million people in north Germany, and almost 2 million people in the north-east of the Netherlands still speak Low-German.
