Japanese Bible

An account of the formation of the protestant Japanese Bible, Yokohama, 1888. It explains why the pure word of God never reached Japan, and was from the start heavily infected by German rationalism, through the unsaved English scholars working on the Revised Version (1881- 1884). See especially page 7, where the Committee sought to attain "uniformity and agreement in the syle of the whole book, quite equal to that of the Revised English Version" (the product of Westcott, Hort and Lightfoot)."from the best critical and grammatical works, and especially  comparing their work with the REVISED VERSION OF THE ENGLISH SCRIPTURES", as embodying the renderings of the most scholarly men of the time". All later editions are based on this corrupt Japanese, English and Greek NT text, and later completely were based on Nestle`s Greek NT text (1917 Japanese edition), based on the Vaticanus MS.  The only exception is the NAGAI YAKU Japanese NT of 1928, based on a TR Greek NT text.                 Click here for the file

Concerning the 1908 Japanese edition: actually the Moto yaku ("Original translation") NT of 1880, has corrupted Alexandrian readings in Col.1:14, 1 Joh.5:7, Rom.1:16 and Rev.22:14,19.
Concerning the romanized version by Hepburn, edition 1904, the following verses have been changed to corrupt Alexandrian readings:1 John 5:7, Rom.1:16, 8:1, Rev.22.14,19, 1 Tim.6:10 and 20. (1 Tim.3:16 and 6:5 are correct).
The first complete japanese NT was translated by Nathan Brown of the A.B.M.U. assisted by T. Kawakatsu. In his explanatory note he writes that it is based upon the "oldest, existing manuscripts, ...among them the most important are the Sinaitic and Vatican". He continues to lie, in that he states, "all copies of the New Testament writings made before the time of Constantine have persihed." The oldest Greek MSS are from the first century (eg P52 from the 2nd). "Two of the fourth remain, but they were inaccessible to the translators of our present English Bible." Wrong, they were available to Erasmus, who was shown 365 readings from the Vatican MS by a friend after he published his first Greek NT, and he rejected ALL of them, plus they were available in Rome's Latin Vulgate, since the 5th century A.D. "The MSS used by them were very imperfect." In 2010 it is a fact that 99% of all MS evidence, more than 5500 MSS, support the text of Erasmus, Luther and the AV translators.

Mr. Pastor Naoji Nagai (1864-1945) completed and published the Shin Keiyaku seisho yakugokai ippan (New Covenant) in 1928. His one-man version of only the New Testament has been based upon the Stephanus 1550 Greek NT text. It is an accurate translation which reads well. The scanned copy is from 1931 in the old kanji characters. A reprint in newer furigana characters, which gives you the pronunciation of the kanji characters, has been reprinted in the 1990`s but is unfortunately out of print.
